People love to pick up tabloids that include pictures of stars without makeup. The public has some kind of fascination with seeing celebrities at their worst. Perhaps it's because they like to know that without gobs of makeup, they don't look that much better than everyone else.
Many web sites and magazines feature "stars without makeup" sections. They present these photos as sort of a "gotcha". These shots are taken when celebrities are walking to the grocery store, leaving the gym or relaxing on the beach. They're usually taken when they are puffy or sweaty. The more flaws the camera can expose, the better the picture.
These photos tend to hone in on older actors and actresses, such as Goldie Hawn. When these stars are photographed in photo shoots for magazine covers, they look great. They look much younger than they are in real life. Part of this is due to the fact that makeup artists can work wonders on them. Also, professional photographers are extremely well versed in hiding flaws and using lighting to make a person look as attractive as possible.

Putting on unnecessarily heavy makeup - According to Christina Bartolucci, DuWop's makeup expert, less is more. Less makeup application is best for your looks of all ages. She urged that the older you get, the less makeup you should use. She commented that she has witnessed many many older women wearing heavy foundation and obvious blush, which in reality ages you more. She adviced to opt for a soft tinted moisturizer, a natural pink blush on the apples of the cheeks, neutral eye shadow, black mascara, and a plum-toned lip gloss. That is all we need to look gorgeous. You should stick to neutral colors and less of them-you will look younger.

Wrong shade of foundation - Makeup artist Bobbi Brown commented that one of the biggest mistake that women ever make is using the wrong shade of foundation. For oily makeup stains (like cover up), usually liquid dish soap or shampoo will remove these makeup stains, but when it won't, sprinkle baking soda directly on the makeup smudge, then brush the area with an old wet toothbrush until the makeup is gone. Oily makeup products include mascara, liquid makeup, rouge and lipstick. Most makeup can be removed from clothing if treated properly. Avoid staining your clothes when getting dressed by hanging a handkerchief over your face before pulling on a shirt or using your hand to hold the collar away from your face. Be careful not to stretch the collar, though.
If the garment is dry clean only, use "Energine Cleaning Fluid" directly on the spot. There are several things you can try to remove lipstick stains from clothing. First try rubbing the stain with a non-oily makeup remover. Select a cleanser suitable for your skin type that has also been tested for the removal or breakdown of makeup. Some soaps and cleansers don't thoroughly cleanse your skin of makeup. First, remove eye makeup. Using a cotton ball or wash cloth, apply a dab of eye makeup remover, and gently cleanse the eyes and area under the eyebrow. Clean until all traces are removed. This is helpful with taking off eye shadow, eye liner, and mascara. Remove waterproof mascara and eye liner using baby oil or baby shampoo.

A non-oily stain might come out when rubbed with a baby wipe or a clean cloth that has been dipped in liquid detergent. Eye Shadow
Eye shadow is meant to highlight and define the eyes. Eye shadow is used to create depth to bring out the beauty of the eyes. A dark color used on the lid will make the eye appear smaller, while a lighter color will make it appear larger. That is what eye shadow is about - creating illusions. These are the basic techniques for the following eye shapes:
Small eyes: Don’t use too much shadow or liner – it will make you eyes look smaller. Apply a light color on eyelid, use a darker color in the crease and use a highlighter under the brow.
Large eyes: Wear darker shadow on the lid and extend it to the crease. Use a flat color under the brow to highlight.

On the upper lid, draw a line form the inner corner to the outer corner, thickening the line toward the outer corner. After the age of 40 keep the line in between the lashes.

Mascara frames your eyes and can make your face come alive. Mascara softly accentuates the eye while thickening and darkening the lashes; it is the finishing touch for eyes. There are several different types to choose from, thickening, and waterproof to smudge proof. Waterproof will need a special remover and smudge proof will wash off easily. It is not a good idea to wear waterproof mascara for extended periods of time since it has a tendency to dry the lashes.
Select a shade of mascara that complements your coloring. Dark shades on pale eyes with brown lashes will darken them and will look harsh. Stay away from blues and other colors since they will ruin your look.
Lashes that are hard to curl may need the help of an eyelash curler. Curl your lashes before you apply mascara – hold for ten to twenty seconds.
To apply mascara look straight into your mirror with your chin slightly lifted so you can see your lashes. Insert the wand only once and twist, don’t pump. Pumping can break the brush bristles and distribute the mascara unevenly and will dry out the mascara faster. Start by rolling the wand from root to tip in an upward motion. Reinsert the brush and apply again. If your eyelashes are thick and long they may clunk together. If this happens let them dry and then separate them with the corner of an eyebrow brush.

Apply the eye shadow color in several thin layers, blend well. Put the sheer color on the center of your lid with a sponge applicator or pencil.
Next, brush up and out toward your brow, then nose. Use an eye brush if possible. Apply a deeper shade of color to the crease of your lid.

The idea behind "Mineral makeup" goes against the more modern use of artificially created compounds and takes its inspiration from minerals and inorganic pigments that exist in nature. Many people prefer the natural colors of the cosmetics and feel they are supporting better health by limiting their exposure to articifial chemicals which make up the ingredients of most cosmetics. Don’t try and highlight more than one feature, it will look “too much”. If you use a bold red lipstick to highlight your beautiful lips go low key with your eye makeup. Conversely if you choose a stunning smoky eye look choose a more subtle lipstick or lip gloss.

Watch out for fads; in 20 years time hot pink lipstick will date your wedding photos. You want to look as classic as possible so that your photo memories are timeless.
Blush: Become a truly blushing bride by choosing a warm flattering cheek colour in a pinky peach or rose or, if you tend to get flushed, a brownish tone. Experiment and find the blush colour that suits your skin tone. Use a powder based blush, they will usually last longer than cream blushers. To apply blush, start at the hairline by the middle of your ear, blend forward to the front of the cheek, and then back to the hairline and upwards. For a perfect application find a blush brush that is the size of the apple of your cheek. After the initial application dust the blush with some loose powder and then apply a touch more blush to the front of the cheek.
Lipstick or Lip Gloss: You will be doing a lot of kissing on your wedding day so you will need a lip colour that will last. Use a matte or longwearing lipstick or lip gloss because you don't want to be constantly touching up your makeup during the day.

Unless you have facials on a regular basis DO NOT get one the week before your wedding day. Facials can pull impurities to the surface, and you do not want to break out the week of your wedding. To also help avoid blotches and blemishes do not make any major changes in your skin care routine during the few weeks before your wedding. The weeks before your wedding is not the time to experiment with your skin care. If you regularly get facials have your last regular facial a good week before the wedding.

If you do have a breakout, do not pick. Do not do anything that can irritate or redden or enlarge the problem. Use pure Aloe Vera to treat any bumps or breakouts. It is a wonderful healer.

Outside lighting is stronger so your makeup should to be softer and more natural than makeup for an indoor wedding.
The lighting.
Different lighting requires different makeup styles. Night time lighting tends to dull makeup so a stronger makeup look is preferable. Natural and day time lighting is more generous to makeup so, again, consider a more natural makeup look.
The colour of your dress.
Ivory and off white tend to make the skin look softer and can therefore support a more glamorous makeup style. White tends to look strong and washes out most faces so consider using softer colours to enhance the face.

The stronger the neckline of your dress the more sophisticated the hair and makeup style will need to be match the dress’s style. A neckline that cuts deep and is off the shoulders will look great with a hair up hair style so that the line of the neck and shoulders is shown off. Consider also the length of the dress, the shorter the dress the more simple the hair and makeup should be. Remember you are creating an entire picture, do not wear a beautiful dress and stylish heels and then wear your hair and makeup like you do when you wear your jeans. Don't sell yourself short on such a memorable day.

Before you meet with a makeup artist, or purchase any makeup, take some time to go through bridal magazines and pull out makeup styles that you really like and some you don’t like. Armed with your bridal magazine cut outs and a picture of your wedding dress book an appointment with your makeup artist for a trial run or a consultation at your cosmetics counter. Don’t do this at the last minute. Make sure you have a good couple of weeks up your sleeve so you have time for a couple of sessions if you don’t settle on a preferred style and colours first time up. Once you have your makeup look sorted make sure the makeup artist or beauty consultant writes everything out, and notes any makeup items you may not have that you need to purchase. Wedding makeup tip: Highlight one facial feature
You know your best facial feature; your plump rosy lips, your beautiful eyes or your lovely check bones. Your makeup should highlight your chosen feature. Don’t try and highlight more than one feature, it will look “too much”. If you use a bold red lipstick to highlight your beautiful lips go low key with your eye makeup. Conversely if you choose a stunning smoky eye look choose a more subtle lipstick or lip gloss.
Wedding makeup tip: Watch out for “seemed a good idea at the time”.
Watch out for fads; in 20 years time hot pink lipstick will date your wedding photos. You want to look as classic as possible so that your photo memories are timeless.
Blush: Become a truly blushing bride by choosing a warm flattering cheek colour in a pinky peach or rose or, if you tend to get flushed, a brownish tone. Experiment and find the blush colour that suits your skin tone. Use a powder based blush, they will usually last longer than cream blushers. To apply blush, start at the hairline by the middle of your ear, blend forward to the front of the cheek, and then back to the hairline and upwards. For a perfect application find a blush brush that is the size of the apple of your cheek. After the initial application dust the blush with some loose powder and then apply a touch more blush to the front of the cheek.
Lipstick or Lip Gloss: You will be doing a lot of kissing on your wedding day so you will need a lip colour that will last. Use a matte or longwearing lipstick or lip gloss because you don't want to be constantly touching up your makeup during the day.
Be sure to use a colour that complements your hair and eye colour and use a lip liner in the same colour family as your lipstick or lip gloss. Don’t use a lip liner much darker than your lipstick or lip gloss. This technique looks harsh and very unnatural in pictures.
Purchase the lipstick or lip gloss and lip liner to keep in your purse for the whole day.
Wedding makeup tip: Smallish lips
If your lips are naturally small the lighter the lip colour the fuller the lips will seem.

Properly groomed and shaped eyebrows help enhance and add expression to the face. Have your eyebrows groomed but do this a week before the wedding in case you get a few red bumps after plucking or waxing. Fill in your eyebrows, if needed, with an eyebrow pencil shade that's slightly lighter than your eyebrows. Brush through with an eyebrow brush or a clean toothbrush for a more natural look.
Mascara: For extra lush looking eyelashes use an eyelash curler before applying your mascara. Prepare for those tears of happiness by using a good waterproof mascara. Apply two coats, let the first coat dry before applying the second coat.
When you purchase your waterproof mascara make sure that you have an eye makeup remover that also takes off waterproof mascara.
Finishing Touches: When you have finished applying your makeup you may want to apply a little more blush, and then finish with a final brush of loose powder.

PERFECT FOR A SOCIAL OCCASION OR NIGHT TIME MAKE UP
This look is perfect for either a social gathering or a night out. It adds personality and strikingly transforms whoever wears it, although achieving a perfect finish isn’t always easy, as patience is required not to smudge the shadow. Following these instructions will make reaching a perfect result a lot easier.
ACHIEVE A BETTER FINISH
If we use a fixing agent –there are several brands of these on the market for eyeshadow and lips which can do the trick very well; once the product is on, we start to get rid of eye bags and imperfections with the corrector, and we blend the product in well.
ILLUMINATE THE FACE
Create points of light with an illuminator in the area just below the eyebrows, the upper regions of the cheekbone, the space between the eyebrows, and on the chin.
Apply a foundation as close as possible to the skin’s tone, or at most one tone higher.
A FAILSAFE TRICK
Blend the eyelids using loose powders: this way the shadows will then slide better, and apply a quantity of powders on the area beneath the eyes as this way we can later pick up any excess black shadow particles, and eliminate them with a makeup brush. With a neutral tone we unify the mobile eyelid, after which, as mentioned, we apply the black shadow in small amounts, to make sure we apply the right quantity.
We may finish by underscoring the base of the lashes with a black pencil, and blending it well.
WHO DOESN’T THIS SUIT?
In terms of eye shape: the only kind of person not to benefit from this look would be either someone with very small eyes -as dark tones sink the gaze- or someone with wide-set eyes as in these cases a natural look is more flattering.
This look will give excellent results on large, and almond or slanted eyes.
Other variants of this look are in grey tones, which look good on green, blue or brown eyes, and navy blue, also very flattering on chestnut, brown, green and blue eyes.
Dark brown shadow goes well with green and blue eyes.
The rouge needs to be very subtle, so as not to distract from the eyes: a pink tone will look right.
And the lips should also be very soft in tone, in a pearly pink or very gentle rosy gloss or just plain lip gloss. The result is spectacular.
